“Environmental Project Implementation Unit” State Agency is the successor of previously operating “Natural Resources Management and Poverty Reduction Project” EPIU State Institution and “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” SNCO reformed on the bases of the latter. “Natural Resources Management and Poverty Reduction Project” EPIU State Institution was formed according to N786 decree (August 29, 2001) of the RA Government. The objective of the institution is defined with the decree of the Government in the following way: “Natural Resources Management and Poverty Reduction Project” PIU State Institution under the subordination of the RA MօE was formed for the realization of preliminary phase of works of natural recourse management and privation mitigation project envisaged under the RA International Agreement. According to the legislation, “NRMPM”EPIU State Institution charter was approved with N176 decree (05.09.2001) of the RA Minister of Nature Protection, the PIU staff was formed according to the RA Prime Minister’s N707 decree (03.10.2001).
The PIU staff was filled in 2002 which fulfilled “Natural Resources Management and Poverty Reduction Project” financed by the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) until May, 2009. During these years G. Minasyan, G. Ghazinyan, A. Isoyan , A. Badalyan, V. Martirosyan worked as the head of PIU. PIU managed to assemble professional personnel, which ensure project implementation.
According to N1191-N decree of the RA Government, “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” State Agency was founded on the bases of “Center of Environmental Programs” SNCO in 2010; Victor Martirosyan was appointed the Director of the latter.
From June 2014 to June 2016, “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” State Agency was headed by Grisha Hovhannisyan.
Gevorg Nersisyan was appointed as the acting director of “Environmental project implementation unit” SA of the Ministry of Nature Protection of the RA by the decree of Prime Minister of the RA N 546-A of 23rd of June 2016, who held the position until September 20, 2017.
The Prime Minister of the RA appointed Meruzhan Galstyan as the director of “EPIU” SA of MoNP by the decree N 1051-A of 20th of September 2017.
